The Moral Courage Foundation

When Gary Bassett read Dean Kilmer's book Igniting the Moral Courage of America, he got excited. The book suggested the development of a "Good Citizen Schlolarship" that makes "good character as important as athletic ability". Gary read that suggestion and thought, "That's what I'll do to make a difference."

Gary quickly got to work recruiting others who could help make this scholarship idea a reality. He established a non-profit corporation, recruited a Board of Directors and an Advisory Board, and started brainstorming. A plan began to develop to offer a $25,000 "Moral Courage Scholarship" to a college-bound high school senior who exemplified Biblical moral standards, and who courageously promoted those moral values in our society.

In May 2008, the first Moral Courage Scholarship was awarded in Waxahachie, Texas.
